Pierre Herme - I am going to make a bold statement. I think the level of excellence that you will find at this rue Bonaparte patisserie is the best of any food producer or purveyor in France. Starting with the glorious macarons, available in traditional flavors like pistachio and coffee, or in more unique flavors such as olive oil and vanilla, and caramel with sel de mer, or the one-of-a-kind gateaux Herme has created (which line the display case as you walk down the length of the shop towards the cashier), to the amazing Ispahan, a sandwich of raspberry macarons with whole raspberries, slices of lychee and rose-flavored cream, which has to be the single greatest dessert ever invented, this is one of the few shops where no matter how much I buy, it isn’t anywhere close to the amount of things I want to buy. I always try to pick up a box of goodies to eat on the way to my next destination, and I’ve had some glorious desserts on my flight back to New York. A+
