I am indebted to Steve for introducing Craft to me, and for understanding how to get the best it has to offer. It is my "go to" restaurant in NY. What amazes me is, after maybe a dozen meals there, I can still experience new highs. The meal described above was one of the best yet. Last summer, we devoured a two-kilo lobster tail, and like the Sopranos, I am anxiously awaiting its return. Five or six people are the ideal sized party to enjoy the full Craft experience.

Great story, pics, and descriptions. Damn I'm hungry!

Joe

What a meal. I must go to craft yesterday. Thanks Steve!

Michael Marco

Thanks for the review. I had heard some dreadful things about CRAFT but feel better now. I am taking my best friend there next week for finishing his PhD thesis after 8 years and really want a super meal like the ones you discussed.

I guess we should get the tasting menu. Any hints on the ordering process to ensure a great meal?

Thanks in advance.

-Michael

8 years for a PHD thesis gives me the chills.

Just tell them you read about the meal on this blog and you want them to serve you something similar.

I clicked on the Miami link and got a San Francisco restaurant I know you have eaten in some of the Miami Restaurants. Have you ever tried Romeo's Cafe on Coral Way. It is incredible. I look forward to hearing from you.

Steve Plotnicki

Hey Jess how are you? I heard you were living down there. No I haven't been to Romeo's but I'll check it out the next time I'm down there.

Jesse Maidbrey

Hey Steve The next time you are in Miami call me. It would be great to see you. email me at [email protected] or call me at 305 642-6030.

Steve Plotnicki

Will do Jess. Unfortunately we aren't coming down this year, It's the first time in probably 15 years that we are going to miss Miami. But I'll let you know the next time we do come down.

I went to Craft a week ago Saturday with a work colleague and his in-laws. When I asked about a chef’s menu like the one mentioned on Steve Plotnicki’s “Opinionated About Dining” blog, the server gave me a (knowing?) (dismissive?) smile and informed me that there had not been a chef’s menu at Craft since it’s inception, and then proceeded to tell me how to order off of the regular menu. Not such a big deal, but somewhat disappointing given that I had hyped the chef’s menu to my dining companions for several weeks based on the blog. She was having none of it, though.

Meal in brief… Started with scallops (best I can ever remember eating), escargot with egg (ditto) and mâche salad (tasty and well dressed, but gritty—Tom Colicchio would have chewed out any “Top Chef” contestant for this simple and inexplicable error). Second course was fettuccine with white truffle—amazing, but there were issues (the promised al fredo sauce turned out to be a meat stock reduction [N.B. probably preferable], the white truffles were not shaved tableside, which I would have expected for $85). Meat courses (Berkshire Farms pork, venison, sweetbreads, halibut) were all very tasty, and veggies (roasted heirloom carrots, Jerusalem artichokes) amazing. Dessert was limited to ice cream and sorbet sampler—bergamot sorbet was incredible (albeit controversial), pomegranate least preferred due to lack of intensity.

In all, I think we cobbled together a really great meal. However, I just wanted to let your readers know that it may take some effort beyond merely asking the server to get your chef’s menu.

BTW, love your site!

Steve Plotnicki

Richard - Next time tell the waitress that you want the kitchen to choose your meal. Just tell them how many courses you want, and what kind of courses (raw fish, charcuterie etc.) That should do the trick.

Isn't all art and beauty in the eye of the beholder? If I think Magritte, Dix, Van Gogh, Monet, and Raphael are great and Harring, Pollock, and Warhol are totally over-rated, how is my opinion worth any less than someone who has taken lots of art appreciating and art history classes?

The photo and painting works on your blog are really impressive. Would you provide a tutorial on HDRI on your blog? That will be

useful to the people who share the same difficulty in work like me.

Outstanding, what an amazing way to convey your current thoughts and opinions? Cool I must say? I do think you're correct. Hope to read more write-ups from your end and I am seriously looking ahead for it.

It's been a tough past year, times when I've questioned certain bands that are praised a lot because of things that I shouldn't and don't want to talk about.
